Film festivals are the merging points of the National and International Cinema. It’s a stage where good cinemas released around the world are screened. The first film festival in India had its origin in the year 1952 at Delhi. Film Festivals were spread in other cities during 1990s. The film festivals were regionalized and localized from the year 2000 onwards. In Thrissur, international film festival taking place for the first time in 2004 with the support of Thrissur Corporation.
The International Film Festival of Thrissur (IFFT) is a joint venture of Thrissur Chalachitrakendram, Corporation of Thrissur, Thrissur Jilla Panchayath, Banerji Memorial Club and K.W. Joseph Memorial.& St.Thomas College,Thrissur.
The film festival is the second longest running r film festival in Kerala under the aegis of a film society. It started in 2004 with the patronage of film connoisseurs of the city of Thrissur and its neighbouring suburbs, the Corporation, Jilla Panchayat, Government officials and the business community.
In 2022, IFFT will celebrate its 17th edition – 1 to 7 March - by continuing to focus on bringing the best in contemporary and classic cinema to its audiences and the development of a vibrant film culture. The 17th edition aims to explore the best of cinema that Asian and African countries have offered to the world.
